Journal Entry #1 - Taking the Leap - Feb. 28

Generally speaking, this blog will make my thought process more visible - for better or worse. I think you, the reader will find that at times, my ideas are all over the place. This is best reflected by my handwriting, I like to excuse it by saying that my brain moves faster than my hand, which I believe that it often does. I figured that a bit of a disclaimer here was necessary, as I look forward to making my personality clear to you.

I know that off the bat, it can be worrying to hear that someone you are interested in working with is all over the place. Throughout the years, I have learned to harness this ability to a point where I can control the chaos and generate the best possible process for the job I need to accomplish. I like to think of it as my brain acting as a computer running thousands of simulations to find the best outcomes. On the whole, I decided to journey into this business space because of a few factors. I have had an unwavering confidence in myself, and I was willing to take on the risk that starting a business is. Also important to my story is the way I have begun to view myself, I am lucky enough to genuinely believe I have found my future. Although my passion is marketing, I consider myself to be an electrician of sorts. I connect you with the vision of your brand that you want the world to see but you don’t have the skills to display.

There are three qualities that drive me to succeed in any obstacle I take on: my confidence, my work ethic, and my curiosity.

Ever since I can remember I have had an unwavering, almost blind confidence that whatever challenge was daring enough to take me on would soon be an afterthought. I like to jump into things with a mindset that is free from the idea of failure, as I believe everything is a learning opportunity and I am thankful when I am put in an opportunity to learn from my mistakes. Keeping the mind free of the concept of total failure has helped me develop my timeliness, leadership ability, and several valuable skills in my field.

As you may be able to tell from the bags under my eyes, I do not sleep as others, however, I have been able to come to terms with that because of my work drive, not only am I fixated on putting out the best possible work product, but I embrace the challenge of outworking my peers in order to put myself in the best position. You will find that you can rely on me for the most difficult challenges without the fear of me cracking under the pressure.

Like I mentioned earlier, my curiosity has propelled me to being knowledgeable in many different categories, but it also has allowed me to become a great listener, which is extremely undervalued in the field of Marketing. Luckily, my parents nurtured this curiosity when I tried to push the envelope, and challenging ideas once thought to be set in stone has brought us things like the Iphone, Wifi, or Artificial Intelligence.

I remember the feeling of starting a project and having a vision of the final product, just for that same project to look nothing like what I thought it would. I decided to become a swiss army knife in the world of marketing so you can connect your visions to the perception the world has about your brand, because as we know, perception is reality.

When I was weighing my options of what to do with my skills, I came to the conclusion that putting a smile on the face of a small business owner is what keeps me driven and disciplined. I wish I could begin to explain the feeling I get when I see the face of that business owner light up because someone finally understands the same vision they have. At that point, it is just about delivering a great product of work. I work closely with all my clients to ensure that I give them the best possible service and we really accomplish what they are looking to get out of our partnership.

These are all the reasons why I decided to pursue my own Digital Marketing Consulting Firm, I named it O’Brien Creative Consulting for obvious reasons, and as of February 22, I am a legally registered business that will be taking on clients that will get the best out of me for each and every challenge we share.
